6 Cool Things to do in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico for your 2019 College Spring Break
Mexico is a veritable mainstay for all college students on spring break. Better yet, that’s where we find the vacation oasis that is Puerto Vallarta. If you’re an adventure and experience oriented type, we’ve got 6 great adventures for your Puerto Vallarta escapades.
Get ready to soar
For an exciting adventure that’s guaranteed to get your heart pumping and adrenaline rocketing, check out zip lining. You’ll soar above and through the rainforest canopy. That’s something no foot tour can give you.
Zip line excursions abound, so you won’t have to search too hard to find your perfect fit. You can choose to book with a tour or go independently.
If you’re trying to forget your semester woes, you’d be hard pressed to find anything else that can take you so far away from it all.
Did somebody say tequila?
We did! Tequila, the official drink of Mexico, and the unofficial drink of spring break: so try one of the tequila tastings and tours.
Take a visit to Cava Antigua, Rancho Verano Distillery, or any of the number of local distilleries and see how it all happens. Spend about an hour on your tour, and take your time with the tasting afterwards. Be sure to bring proof of identification, as the tastings are adult only. Luckily, Mexico’s drinking age is 18.
You will certainly be impressed. The tequila produced here is of the highest quality, so grab a few bottles you can show off back home.
Malecon, your new favorite boardwalk in Mexico
If you’re ready to shake the sand the from your sandals for a bit, treat yourself to a little jaunt along the Malecon. Peppered with just enough tiny boutiques, stalls, and cantinas, you can enjoy the sights and some shopping too.
As if that weren’t enough, the Malecon hugs up against the ocean providing a perfect photo-op. If you’re into instagramming your adventures, you won’t be able to resist all the unique and quirky statues you’ll find along your walk.
Once you’re done exploring the Malecon, take a short walk south to see the Isla Río Cuale – an island right near the heart of Puerto Vallarta. Here, you can do some souvenir shopping, sample local fare, and you’re likely to find the best burger you’ve ever had.
Change your view on botanical gardens
Take time to spend an afternoon checking out Puerto Vallarta’s botanical gardens. Picturesque and diverse, don’t be mistaken in thinking that taking a tour through the botanical garden is an all dry affair. You’re going to get your fair share of sun and swim here.
If you don’t consider yourself much of a walker or hiker, they’ve got that covered too. You can rent a scooter or atv, and tours are available on either.
Take the trails to reach the Crystal Pools, and we promise you won’t regret it. You can also take a dip in the pristine waters of the Emerald Pools, or have a swim on the river.
We’d be out of line of we failed to mention the tequila tastings, and on-site bars and restaurants: notably Hacienda de Oro. Here, you’ll have a hummingbird feeder ripe with activity right next to you as you enjoy your meal.
Now, film fanatics, you probably already know what this is all about, at least in terms of shooting locations. For all others, this is where the iconic Schwarzenegger movie Predator was filmed. You can still find a few props and pieces paying homage to the film, and of course a ‘predator’ you can tip to star in your own photo-op.
There’s much more to El Eden than having been a film location.
You’ll want to pack your swimsuit and make the most out of the natural pools here. Complete with waterfalls, a rope swing if you want to splash in, and rock slides along the waterfalls, you can have a swim and adventure all at once.
Surrounded by verdant jungle, forgetting about campus life won’t even cross your mind.
Playa los Muertos
Playa los Muertos, meaning dead man’s beach, is anything but dead. Easily crowned the most popular beach in Puerto Vallarta, there’s still plenty of space to spread out and sun yourself.
It’s the perfect shore for vacationing students:
With a well known liberal attitude and wide selection of water sports and nearby entertainment it naturally beckons to a young crowd, and we’d be doing you a disservice if we didn’t mention that it’s accessible 24 hours a day.
You’ll never want for amenities at Playa los Muertos either. Plenty of local foods, cheap drinks, umbrellas for rent, and sometimes even local musicians are all available to you. An added perk here is that the typical beach vendors are notably less pushy than in many locales, and will leave you to your business with a simple ‘no gracias.’
If parasailing, kayaking, jet skiing and catching a banana boat ride sound like your kind of beachy bliss, don’t let yourself pass up this beach hub.
